During the study follow-up period of more than two decades, nearly 24000 of the participants died, including 5910 from heart disease and 9464 from cancer.” The Sun Times reports the researchers factored out other variables things like age, weight, physical activity and family history. The Guardian argues — while the information may seem shocking, it’s not as alarming as some in the media are making it out to be. “The extremely casual reader may erroneously take away the information that eating a portion of bacon a day gives you a one in five chance of dying that very day, the reality is rather less alarming.
